U.S. Crypto Giants Will Attend Congressional Hearings on December 8

As the market value of the cryptocurrency market has exceeded US$2 trillion, how to regulate has increasingly become a political issue that governments all over the world need to face urgently.

For example, some major figures in the cryptocurrency field in the United States will go to the U.S. Capitol Hill to attend a hearing on December 8.

Congressman Maxine Waters, Chairman of the Financial Services Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, announced on December 1 that a full committee hearing will be held at 10 am on December 8, entitled “The Future of Digital Assets and Finance: Understanding the Challenges and Benefits of U.S. Financial Services” .

Alesia Jeanne Haas, CEO of Coinbase Inc. and CFO of Coinbase Global Inc.

The US House of Representatives Financial Services Committee has previously convened multiple hearings on cryptocurrency regulation.

In July 2019, Maxine Waters convened a hearing to review Facebook’s proposed cryptocurrency and its impact on consumers, investors, and the U.S. financial system.

In October 2020, Maxine Waters convened Facebook Chairman and CEO Mark Zuckerberg to hold a hearing on the impact of Facebook on financial services and housing.

In September 2021, the Fintech Working Group held a hearing entitled “Bank Licensing: Review of the Legal Framework for Who Can Loan and Process Payments in the Fintech Era”.

In June 2021, the Financial Technology Working Group held a hearing entitled “The Digital Dollar: Investigating the Impact of Central Bank Digital Currency on Technical Infrastructure, Privacy and Financial Inclusion”.

In June 2021, Maxine Waters announced the establishment of the Democratic Party Member Digital Assets Working Group.

In June 2021, the Supervision and Investigation Subcommittee held a hearing entitled “The United States on the “Fire”: Will the cryptocurrency frenzy lead to financial independence and early retirement or financial bankruptcy?” 

In July 2021, the National Security, International Development and Monetary Policy Subcommittee held a hearing entitled “Central Bank Digital Currency Commitments and Dangers”.
