MetaMask is a plug-in type Ethereum wallet used on Google Chrome. The wallet does not need to be downloaded. You only need to add the corresponding extension to Google Chrome. It is very lightweight and very convenient to use.
1. Chrome installation
Since it is a plug-in running on Google Chrome, of course, you need to install Chrome first.

2. MetaMask plug-in installation
The official address of this plug-in is https://metamask.io/, as shown in Figure 1 after entering.

Click “GET CHROME PLUGIN” in the blue box to enter Chrome’s online application store, as shown in Figure 2.

Click “Add to CHROME” marked in the red box in Figure 2 to install.
If the Chrome online store cannot be opened, Donggua (public account: Chunlaidongwang) found a download link for everyone on the Internet, and reply “metamask” in the background to get the download address (currently the latest version 3.10.2).
Then open Chrome, enter chrome://extensions/ in the address bar and press Enter, and drag the downloaded crx file to this extension page to install it. After installation, a new small fox head icon will be generated in the upper right corner, similar to Figure 3.

3. Use of MetaMask
Click on the fox head icon of MetaMask, and a privacy prompt will appear when you use it for the first time after installation, as shown in Figure 4.

Here is a reminder to the user that after logging in to MetaMask, your account is visible to all websites you visit. For your privacy, it is best to log out after using MetaMask. At the same time, readers are also reminded that by default MetaMask will log in to a test network. To use a real Ethernet network, users need to manually connect to the main network of Ethereum, which will be demonstrated here.
Click the “Accept” button to display the terms of service of MetaMask, as shown in Figure 5.

The Accept button is gray by default. Don’t worry, click the drop-down bar marked by the blue box in the upper right corner and pull it to the bottom, and the button will be available. Click the “Accept” button to enter the wallet login page, as shown in Figure 6.

The user has two choices here, one is to create a new DEN (DEN is a wallet encrypted and stored in MetaMask), and the other is to import an existing DEN. Let’s take creation as an example. Enter a password in the two password input boxes above, and click the “CREATE” icon at (1) in the figure to create a MetaMask wallet, as shown in Figure 7.

MetaMask will create 12 English mnemonic words for the user. Be sure to save these mnemonic words, be sure to save these mnemonic words, be sure to save these mnemonic words, and import this newly created account in other wallets. These mnemonics may be needed.
After saving these mnemonics, click the button below to enter the wallet page, as shown in Figure 8.

MetaMask has automatically created a wallet address for the user, the address is “not complete”? It doesn’t matter, click on the three dots on the right to open a menu related to the wallet address, as shown in Figure 9.

There are 4 items in the menu. The first item is to view all the transfer information of the wallet address on Etherscan. I will introduce you to Etherscan melon in the future. The second item is to display the QR code of the wallet, the third item is to copy the wallet address to the pasteboard, and the fourth item is to export the private key of the wallet. Various specific functions will not be introduced to you, the correlation can be seen from the name. The fourth item will prompt the user to enter the password when exporting the private key, as shown in Figure 10.

The input box here is to enter the password entered when creating the wallet, and then click “Submit”, as shown in Figure 11.

Click on the drop-down menu marked in the blue box to select the pricing method, including legal currency and virtual currency, and users can choose according to their own habits.
The second option is “Lock”. When the user temporarily leaves the computer, click on this item to temporarily lock the wallet. You need to enter the login password to unlock it again, as shown in Figure 15.

4. The main functions of MetaMask
The previous article introduced some common settings of MetaMask wallet. This section introduces the main functions of MateMask as a wallet.
4.1 Purchase Eth
Click the “Buy” button on the front of the wallet to enter the purchase Eth page, as shown in Figure 16.

As you can see from this page, MetaMask supports two ways to purchase Eth, one is from Coinbase, and the other is through ShapeShift.
Coinbase is the first bitcoin exchange in the United States to hold a formal license. You can buy bitcoin with US dollars, but it is currently not open to Chinese people, so this article will not introduce it first.
ShapeShift is a digital currency exchange platform without an account. You can directly exchange your own virtual currency into Eth, as shown in Figure 17.

4.2 Send Eth
Click the “Send” button on the homepage of the wallet to enter the page for sending Eth, as shown in Figure 18.

Fill in the destination Eth address to be sent to, the number of Eth sent, and click “NEXT”.
5. Account management
The so-called account management is actually the management of Eth addresses. In addition to an address generated by default, we can also create a new account or import an existing account.
Click the second icon from the right in the upper right corner of the wallet, as shown in Figure 19.

The first item is an existing account, the second item is “create a new account”, and the third item is “import an existing account”.
5.1 Create a new account
Click “Create Account” in the second line, the wallet seems to have no response, but in fact a new account has been created, as shown in Figure 20.

Click on a different account and the wallet will switch to the corresponding account.
5.2 Import account
Click “Import Account” to import other accounts, such as the addresses of other wallets, as shown in Figure 21.

You can choose to import through the “private key” method (the default method), enter the private key in the second input box (remember the private key introduced in Figure 11), and click “IMPORT”.
