A few days ago, Microsoft released a new global workplace trend report “Great Expectations: Making Hybrid Work Work”, which focused on the analysis of the future office scene conversion, and the report pointed out that more and more people are experiencing the benefits of flexible work.
It is understood that the data of the Job Trend Index was conducted by market research firm Edelman data x Intelligence from January 7, 2022 to February 16, 2022, and a total of 31,102 full-time employees and freelancers in 31 major markets were interviewed. It surveyed at least 1,000 full-time employees in each market and the results reflect the global average.
According to the survey, mixed office has increasingly become the new normal in the global labor market, and the labor force has adapted to the work mode that coexists with the epidemic. Among them, 57% of the respondents are inclined to telecommuting, and 51% of the respondents believe that they will consider switching to hybrid office in the next year. Meanwhile, 43% of workers are somewhat or very likely to consider changing jobs in the coming year, up slightly from 41% a year earlier.
Microsoft pointed out that the hybrid office model is the work mode with the greatest potential in the future, and as an emerging medium of the hybrid office model, young people are becoming more and more interested in AR/VR. 50% of respondents who are willing to use avatar/Metaverse technology at work are younger generations of Gen Z, and 30% say they are unfamiliar with the Metaverse or unwilling.
In the “Metaverse is coming to work” section, Microsoft gave the following survey data:
52% of employees plan to use digital immersive spaces in the Metaverse for meetings or team events in the next year.
Forty-seven percent of employees would be willing to show off their Avatar at a conference next year.
51% of Gen Z and 48% of millennials believe they will try the Metaverse office in the next two years.
16% of employees said they would never work at the Metaverse.
13% of employees say they don’t know what the term “Metaverse” means.
Mar Gonzalez Franco, principal researcher at Microsoft Research, said: “Our early research shows that people feel more engaged, close and even more comfortable when using an avatar in a meeting compared to an audio-only call. The person you’re talking to can Seeing your body language better, back-and-forth conversations will also feel more natural.”
Microsoft points out that it’s not only in their best interest to enable people to perform at their best, but it’s also good for the business. For hybrid work models to work, executives need to consider how emerging technologies like the Metaverse and AI can enhance collaboration and foster creativity in a distributed work world.
