How NFT promotes the development of the Japanese animation community

NFTs have disrupted the investment and art world, making headlines in 2021 due to their groundbreaking utility for creators and investors, and they show no signs of slowing down in 2022.

In fact, according to DappRadar’s data, NFT has just set its best year on record, generating more than 23 billion U.S. dollars in transaction volume, a significant increase from less than 100 million U.S. dollars recorded in 2020.

From video anchors to entrepreneurs, the entire artist community can now take advantage of the new market for digital art.

The market value of NFTs stems from their exclusivity, because by definition, their irreplaceability means that NFTs are classified as unique products.

Since NFTs exist on the blockchain, they do not require any middleman. These digital assets have been rapidly adopted as a new form of investment in the past year or so, but their value lies not only in becoming an exclusive asset, but also in providing a way for independent creators to generate income.

Due to the emergence of NFTs, the animation and manga communities in Japan are also booming. Although the art genre originated in the 12th century and became popular in the 20th century, due to the emergence of NFT, manga and animation communities have once again become the focus of attention.

“One Piece” is a well-known comic series, with its 100th volume published in September 2021. In the past two decades, the series has sold more than 490 million copies, setting a record for the most printed single-man comic series. Its publisher, Shueisha, selected 10 classic scenes from the series and turned them into luxurious prints, each priced at nearly 500,000 yen (4,500 US dollars).

In September, a lottery was launched. Since each print allows the owner to check when the artwork changes hands through their smartphone, this is a prime example of how NFT can add more value to the animation community.

Although cartoonists usually illustrations for publications, the original drawings are usually not preserved. NFT provides a solution to this problem, creating a way for animation and manga art to be appreciated, respected and remembered in the coming years. Animation is already an internationally recognized art genre and is loved by many people all over the world. However, thanks to NFT technology, the genre is now more accessible, and creators can distribute their work globally by simply logging into the NFT market.
