We start with a detailed business plan.
Yuga Labs was founded by four friends: Gargamel, Gordon, Tomato and Sass.
Everything stems from this sentence:
(“The profile picture Gordon gave me on his phone was a bit rude in my opinion??” -Garga)
Don’t worry, let’s start from scratch
Gordon and Garga first became interested in cryptocurrencies in 2017, and they tweeted some bullshit.
You can read everything on Crypto Twitter and only scratch the surface of what’s going on. Also, the crazy characters you meet while browsing Crypto Twitter looking for alpha (finding the next junk coin) are really appealing. So many millionaires (and a lot of fake ones) have anime profile pictures and send each other drab memes.
They contributed to cryptocurrency in the only way they knew: read a lot, spent some money, made some money, and lost everything.
In early 2021, The Hashmasks is released. We’ve heard about other NFT projects before, such as Crypto Kitties and Cryptopunks. But for the first time Hashmasks felt that the technical aspects of the NFT project were not the point. This is an art project mediated by blockchain and NFT technology. Technically, without doing anything crazy, it moved the entire space forward.
They sent another text message.
They recruited two friends, Sass and Tomato, both software engineers, to help build something before they really knew what they were building.
It feels like a new cultural wave is entering cryptocurrencies (more specifically, Ethereum).
As the four of us learned more about NFTs, we became more excited about the possibilities this technology enabled. Not only is it an opportunity to create art and tell a story in a new medium, but if you can irrefutably prove that a piece of digital artwork is authentic, then you can use that artwork as a way to access locked content, experiences, clothing key. anything. Your NFT can double as a membership card for an exclusive club.
Ape, nature is Ape.
Cryptocurrency traders have long known affectionately as “Ape.” This is one of the reasons why some of the most valuable NFTs in the Cryptopunks family are apes. We envision a future where crypto changes the world and everyone in the crypto space “makes it” (Supercycle, etc.). Everyone who “mocks” or strives to get into cryptocurrencies has grown beyond their wildest imaginations. But then what? What does a boring “ape” do?
Our answer: hanging out in secret clubs in swamps, apes only. And doodle on a collaborative pixel board on the club bathroom wall.
After working with a team of freelance commercial illustrators to bring this idea to life, Bored Ape Yacht Club is ready. BAYC launched a week-long pre-sale on April 23, 2021, at the cost of minting Bored Ape NFTs of 0.08 ETH, or about $220 in USD at the time. After a very slow week (only about 500 apes were minted during the pre-sale), all the remaining boring apes were minted in one crazy night. The collection sold out on May 1, 2021. At one point, BAYC was the most used smart contract on the Ethereum network, leaving UniSwap far behind.
Depicting these ragged, punk, world-weary bored apes is the result of a team of talented freelance illustrators working together.
@allseeingseneca worked on the basic character design for four days under our creative direction, after which @migwashere, @thomasdagley and two other artists, who asked not to be named, worked for over a month on a variety of expressions, costumes and accessories, and The design of the club itself.
Mutant monkeys are illustrated by @thomasdagley and @lovans, with serum art by @1800seandotcom.
When did it happen?

BAYC LoFi Radio started as a recorded video, which became live on May 21st. To be honest, we are focused on other things in the roadmap, so the YT channel equipment has failed many times, which is why there are very few views or comments haha.

They kept the party going on Wednesday night with a celebratory concert at the Brooklyn Steel Company with a concert featuring top musical acts and cameos from some well-known comedians. On Saturday, the owners of Ape and Mutant enjoyed a final cheer at a charity dinner at Carbone, one of New York City’s most famous restaurants. The auction raised nearly $200,000.
All campaign images are provided by BAYC members and are not part of the Yuga media kit.
