Gitcoin Round 10 has opened, which quality communities and projects deserve to be funded?

How do I get involved in Gitcoin donations?

Gitcoin, the open source software and community donation platform, has launched its 10th round of donations, which will run from June 16 to July 7. Users can fund great open source software teams, communities, “public goods” components, and more through the platform, and the Ether Foundation and many third-party organizations will also match their funding with more donations, providing more early or ongoing help to the blockchain and broader open source software industry.

In May of this year, the GTC governance token was launched to decentralize Gitcoin. The GTC token devolves governance to the community primarily through Stewards. Community Stewards will be actively involved in funding rounds moving forward, deciding on round sizes and allocations, approving expenses, and even helping to prevent fraud, witchcraft, and collusion attacks against Quadratic Funding. So far, the community has approved round sizes and allocations.

Over the past nine rounds of donations, Gitcoin has “funneled” more than $10 million in donations to more than 1,600 projects in the important Web3 ecosystem. These projects include large DeFi projects, important ethereum infrastructure, major Web3 news outlets, and other artistic community projects. Without Gitcoin’s contributions, many quality public open source projects would have missed out on good development opportunities due to funding issues.

In a departure from previous rounds, matching funds for Round 10 donations will be distributed by category: Infrastructure Development ($195,000), DApp ($162,500), Global Community ($130,000) and Latin American Regional Projects ($65,000), Organizations Building Gitcoin ($50,000), NFT project ($48.75K), and DGOV ($48.75K).

As of June 23, Gitcoin’s Round 10 funders (sponsors) include, in addition to the Ether Foundation, Gitcoin Core, IoTex Network, Vite Labs, The Graph, Minds, Bluzelle, Polygon (formerly Matic) Aave, Mask Network, OPGames, Reflexer Labs, Badger Finance, Perpetual Protocol, DODO Labs, unigrants, Force, 88mph, district0x, CenterPrimex, the Algorand Foundation, IOSG Ventures, PUNK.PROTOCOL, TellerProtocol, etc.

What is Gitcoin?
Gitcoin provides a platform for open source projects of all sizes to seek and receive funding. In addition to the donations received by each project during each round of Gitcoin donations, Gitcoin also uses this as a reference to coordinate the allocation of funds from the Ether Foundation in order to increase the chances of quality projects receiving investment.

Funding for open source projects can contribute to the development of the blockchain ecosystem as a whole, and Gitcoin, the open source software development incentive platform, is an essential force for the benefit of the blockchain world.

Gitcoin uses a quadratic voting model to crowdfund projects to allocate funds, solving the inefficient financing of public goods in the ethereum ecosystem and encouraging minority voting.

What teams can I fund?
There is no shortage of quality projects or teams on Gitcoin, but there are so many that the overall quality varies and it’s hard to screen them.

Fortunately, there are a few teams that we are familiar with and that continue to work in the ethereum ecosystem as “public goods” that haven’t found a suitable business model yet. So by directly funding these teams, they may be able to use the funds to make more contributions in the ethereum community.

If you have any recommended teams or projects, please feel free to contact us as well.

WalletConnect (Tool)
Recommended by: Pan Zhixiong
WalletConnect is the current infrastructure that allows wallets on mobile to communicate with the web side of the computer, which is already supported by most DeFi protocols and wallet sides. They’ve been maintaining the protocol as a public good, so they’ve only been able to fund development through donations like Gitcoin, so look for them to continue working on a more stable and easy-to-use version.

Hardhat (Tools)
Recommended by: Pan Zhixiong
HardHat, a new generation of ethereum development tools developed by Nomic Labs, has been very well received by developers. Their goal is to develop a flexible, powerful, scalable, and fast development environment for professional developers.

Tokenized Tweets (NFT)
Recommended by KarenZ
Tokenized Tweets allows users to tweet their favorite tweets without Gas minted on Polygon, and the same tweet can only be tokenized once. The team has now switched from the previous model of minting NFTs via Twitter tokens to a Chrome extension, and will later build a sales and auction marketplace.

clr.fund (app)
Recommended by KarenZ
clr.fund is a permission- and trust-free secondary funding application for ethereum public goods. secondary funding results are calculated from zero-knowledge proofs provided by MACI and are accurate, censorship-resistant, privacy-preserving, and coercion-resistant. clr.fund will use this round of grants to continue to grow clr.fund and to provide matching funds for subsequent funding of clr.fund. and to provide matching funds for subsequent funding rounds. RSS3 (protocol)
Recommended by: angelilu3
RSS3 is an open source protocol designed for content and social networking in the Web 3 era. Their vision is a world where information delivery is free, secure, efficient and centralized, where each network actor has distributed control over their data, where index files and content files should be under distributed hosting, and where the right to edit files is determined by their keys. The team upholds the values of neutrality, inclusion, equality, security, and privacy, and RSS3 is designed to be extremely open to modules with different functions.

Ether Chinese Community (Community)
Recommended by: angelilu3
The overall purpose of ECN is to promote awareness and adoption of the Ethernet blockchain as the next generation of social infrastructure. To further make China part of the Ethernet world and bridge the broader ecosystem and community, they strive to advance Ethernet-related activities, including education, translation, community building, news feeds, communication, and event organization.

Dark Forest (game)
Recommended by: A Poplar Tree
Dark Forest is a decentralized real-time strategy (RTS) game built on ethereum and the sidechain xDAI with simple zero-knowledge proofs (zkSNARK), where players start with their own planet, randomize their location, and expand their visibility and force by conquering other planets. Dark Forest’s innovation is that zkSNARK makes the player’s route of action undisclosed, allowing the player to act in complete privacy.

DeFiLab_xyz (tool)
Recommended by: a poplar tree
Compared to V2, the biggest change in Uniswap V3 is that it changes the original AMM model to “Concentrated Liquidity”, which is similar to an order book, making the setting of price ranges, etc., extremely important for commission revenue. DeFiLab_xyz, a Uniswap V3 simulation tool created by DeFiLab, allows users to perform calculations and simulations with the tool and parameters, and supports the community in creating and simulating LP positions, with plans to gradually expand to other tools and protocols.

Rotki (tool)
Recommended by: CCC
The equivalent of a personal portfolio management backend. The feature is the integration of both centralized exchange investment performance and the performance of investments participating in DeFi projects. The platform allows users to perform a complete analysis of their investments in the crypto space. Also, since Rotki keeps data locally, the data is not handed over to the service, which is a good way to bring privacy to users.

Let Anyone Write Smart Contracts (tool)
Recommended by: CCC
The project behind it is Q-Modeler, which aims to build a light development platform that allows non-technical people to program simple logical blockchain applications by way of component tools. With Q-Modeler, users can first create a logical chain of programs, later they can add parameters or select functions in each logical point, and then form the complete program with some code modules built into Q-Modeler. It’s a great idea, but the team and specific technical details have not been disclosed yet, so please choose carefully.
