During CES 2022, Qualcomm brought its latest developments in the automotive, XR and computing fields.
Prior to this, at its 2021 investor conference, Qualcomm showed a “unified technology roadmap.” Thanks to its accumulation in the mobile field, Qualcomm believes that the company is ushering in the biggest development opportunity in its history, and its business is expanding from the mobile field to the automotive and Internet of Things fields.
The four key business areas of smartphones, radio frequency front-ends, automobiles, and the Internet of Things are all important strategic layout points for Qualcomm, which will help expand its potential market scale to more than 7 times its current size in the next ten years.
Qualcomm “Unified Technology Roadmap”
First of all, in the automotive field, Qualcomm has cooperated with more than 25 auto manufacturers with the Snapdragon automotive digital cockpit platform, and the total value of automotive business orders has exceeded 13 billion U.S. dollars. At the conference, based on the digital cockpit platform, Qualcomm also announced cooperation with Honda, Volvo, Alpine, Desay SV and others.
In addition to the cockpit platform, Qualcomm also played a set of “Snapdragon Digital Chassis” combination punches. This combination includes the Snapdragon Automotive Intelligent Connected Platform, the cockpit platform for information and audio-visual solutions, the Snapdragon Ride platform for ADAS and autonomous driving, and the vehicle-to-cloud platform. It can support cars to integrate all systems with digital cloud connectivity, instead of just providing discrete components for specific parts of the car. On this platform, the cooperation between Qualcomm and Renault Group has been further deepened.
Among them, on the Snapdragon Ride platform, Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon Ride vision system, an open and scalable platform for autonomous driving, which is expected to be launched with mass-produced cars in 2024.
Qualcomm announces cooperation with Microsoft to expand and accelerate the development of AR, opening the road to Metaverse
On the topic of the unabated Metaverse recently, Qualcomm CEO Anmeng announced the cooperation with Microsoft to expand and accelerate the development of AR. “Qualcomm’s technology is the “key to Metaverse.” Anmeng emphasized at the company’s investor meeting.
In the future, the two parties are launching a number of cooperation, including the development of customized AR chips to create a new generation of energy-efficient, lightweight AR glasses; and plans to integrate Microsoft Mesh applications and Snapdragon Spaces XR developer platform and other software. Anmeng said: “With the development of Metaverse, the size of the Chinese market and the growth rate of the ecosystem will increase significantly in the next few years.”
In the PC field, Qualcomm believes that Arm-based modern architecture is the future of the PC industry. Qualcomm is pushing the PC ecosystem to upgrade from the traditional x86 architecture to the Arm architecture. Today, many manufacturers are racing to design and build next-generation PCs based on these technologies to meet the needs of future productivity, education, and networked entertainment.
In the process of promoting the transformation of the PC industry to an Arm-based computing architecture, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon computing platform product portfolio serves more than 200 enterprise-level customers who are testing or deploying Snapdragon laptops and 2-in-1 laptops.
