Filecoin Storage Market
OpenSea uses IPFS and Filecoin to store NFT
OpenSea recently launched a feature to “freeze” NFT metadata, enabling NFT creators to properly distribute their NFTs using IPFS and Filecoin. openSea is one of the largest NFT marketplaces in the web3 space, and is now creating a marketplace for millions of NFTs. OpenSea is one of the largest NFT marketplaces in the web3 space, creating a marketplace for millions of NFTs today. Using IPFS and Filecoin, NFT creators using OpenSea can now use IPFS content addressing and Filecoin’s provable and distributed storage to create immutable NFT metadata.
Filecoin Mining Working Group
The Filecoin Foundation has launched the Filecoin Mining Working Group (MWG), a voluntary working group that allows Filecoin miners of all sizes to collaborate with other respected miners on the Filecoin network. Through collaboration with local miners in North America, Europe, and Asia, the MWG aims to improve the mining experience for all Filecoin miners while providing resources and education to bridge the gap between Filecoin miners and Filecoin developers, storage providers, and the broader global community.
Lotus & Retrieval Marketplace Summit
The Filecoin community recently hosted the Retrieval Market Builders Summit, which brought together all the builders of multiple retrieval market solutions to highlight the progress made to date and identify how multiple systems can be combined to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, and reliability of retrieval for network users.
At the Summit, libp2p and Filecoin core developer Raul Kripalani provided insight into the architecture and planned changes to the Lotus node, specifically changes to the Lotus-miner node to better meet the needs of miners and network participants.
Filecoin Miner Questionnaire
Calling all Filecoin miners! We are still looking for community members to complete the Filecoin Mining Questionnaire. Help us improve our ecosystem program and community support by participating in this short survey , we would greatly appreciate your input. Thank you for your continued work to strengthen the community.
Filecoin Technical Updates
The Lotus team is pleased to announce the release of Lotus v1.10.0, which introduces a HyperDrive network upgrade to the Filecoin protocol on Wednesday, June 30, 2021. This release uses specs-actors v5 and Rust v8.0.2 -fil-proofs to implement the following FIPs.
FIP-0008: Add miner bulk sector pre-submission method
FIP-0011: Remove reward auctions from reporting consensus errors
FIP-0012: DataCap recharge FIL+ client address
FIP-0013: Add ProveCommitSectorAggregated method to reduce on-chain congestion
FIP-0015: Restore FIP-0009 (exempt Window PoSts from BaseFee burning)
The main highlight is FIP-0013, which uses the new SnarkPack technology to allow aggregation of many proofs when loading new storage into the Filecoin network. It is hoped that this will increase the rate of delivering useful storage to the network by a factor of 10-25.
HyperDrive final version-Proofs v8.0.2
Proofs version v8.0.2 contains the final features of the Hyperdrive program. This includes a new API that interacts with SnarkPack, a system that can efficiently generate individual proofs from many other previously generated SNARK proofs. This can help enable on-chain scaling by requiring a smaller number of replicated proofs, as proof aggregation can conceptually be considered a data compression technique. The new proof version further exposes the SnarkPack API to validate these aggregated proofs, thus ensuring that all original input proofs are correctly validated without having to validate each proof individually.
Filecoin Launchpad Accelerator II
This week Tachyon launched the Filecoin Launchpad Accelerator II. 20 companies and 55 founders from 11 countries on four continents. These are some of the brightest and most innovative founders building in web3. The projects are in NFT, DeFi, development tools, social, gaming and infrastructure.
HyperDrive + AMA 2 Review
The HyperDrive upgrade is coming soon, so last week Filecoin CryptoEcon engineer ZX hosted a discussion to explain its importance and key features. the HyperDrive upgrade will increase storage capacity by 10-25 times, which is achieved by reducing the unit storage of BatchCommit messages GasUsage. In addition, the upgrade will allow for lower mining costs due to lower unit storage costs, faster network growth as miners take advantage of lower gas costs, cheaper transactions, network-wide benefits, and incentives for miners to compete cooperatively beyond the network.

Introducing the Browsers 3000 Hackathon
IPFS, Filecoin, and many of our ecosystem friends are excited to announce the Browsers 3000 Hackathon, starting July 8th and running through September 21, 2021!
This hackathon is a six-week virtual event designed to explore and accelerate the development of web3 in the browser through experiments and challenge prizes.
It kicks off with a one-day summit with speakers from your favorite browser makers and other projects building browser infrastructure for web3 and P2P technologies today, and will include workshops and demos through to a show-and-tell demo and awards ceremony in September.
Filecoin Next Step Grants
Filecoin Next Step Microgrants are now available to support taking Next Step after building an initial prototype with Filecoin. they understand that decentralized technology is a rapidly evolving field with many unknowns. next step microgrants seek to match the speed, breadth, and experimental nature of this work. Next Step Microgrants seeks to match the speed, breadth, and experimental nature of this work.
The amount of the Next Step Microgrants is $5,000, payable in FIL tokens. The entire grant amount is used to support work related to integrating or improving Filecoin, such as developer time, hosting services, related hardware, etc.
