CyberTruck launch had failed to demonstrate, Tesla announced a new patent for bulletproof glass

May 31 news according to foreign media TechTimes reported, Tesla recently disclosed a new patent for the bulletproof glass used in Tesla’s electric pickup truck. The patent shows that the bulletproof glass of the electric pickup truck uses a new “multi-layer glass stack” structure, which has a 90% chance of keeping the car glass intact under a 2 Joule impact.

According to the patent, the multi-layer glass of Tesla’s electric pickup truck consists of the following parts: First, there is the inner glass layer, which is chemically reinforced and has a high strength elasticity and is between 0.5 and 1.1 mm thick. Next there is an adhesive interlayer that connects it to an outer surface layer with energy absorbing properties. The outer layer consists of a low CTE, high density glass with a thickness between 2 and 5 mm. These two layers of glass are joined together by an energy-absorbing adhesive. In addition, the outer layer is a low melting point glass made of silica and boron oxide, which is more heat and shock resistant than other glasses.

At Tesla’s launch event in November 2019, during the introduction of its CyberTruck, an electric pickup truck, Musk claimed that the car’s glass was bulletproof, followed by a live demonstration of the strength of the electric pickup’s glass by Tesla’s Chief Design Officer Franz von Holzhausen, who threw a round metal ball at the driver’s side glass, to the Unexpectedly, the glass of the car shattered. Musk then took the metal ball and smashed it against the rear seat side window, and the window glass shattered again.
