Community ▏zkTube AMA Essence Review

On May 24th, some of the core technical and operational members of the Australian team zkTube Labs came to the Satoshi Club English Telegraph Group in person. With more than 70,000 members waiting for them, the zkTube team answered questions from the community members in detail and exchanged cordially with friends in the community.

The first part was a selection of questions from the community, the second part was online questions from the community members, and within just one minute, hundreds of questions about the zkTube project emerged instantly in the group, while the third part was a Q&A session for all community members, attracting tens of thousands of people to watch and participate online at the same time.

The following is a recap of the AMA organized by zkTube Chinese community

At the beginning of the AMA, the Satoshi Club team warmly welcomed the zkTube team, and the zkTube team thanked Satoshi Club for the official invitation.

Satoshi Club Host: Can you tell us about the origin of zkTube?

Panda (Global Operations Director of zkTube): The concept of the zkTube protocol prototype first originated in 2018. Vitalik Buterin, the founder of ethereum, proposed anti-ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) mining solution in the discussion. zkTube founder Lance was involved in the new idea of ethereum scalability and POS mining and casting zkTube exploration. As a result, zkTube has been recommended by the Etherpad public donation and zkTube has become part of the Etherpad ecosystem.

Satoshi Club Moderator: Basically, zkTube is taking advantage of the Ethernet platform and improving its functionality using ZK-Rollup technology based on the PLONK algorithm protocol, can you highlight the benefits of this protocol? What is the speed of your platform using this technology?

Dave (Technical Director, zkTube).

1). The benefits of Plonk are that it supports a common, scalable reference string and that some scenarios and features can actually share an SRS as long as the size of the circuit design does not exceed the SRS cap threshold, which is very helpful for zkTube. zkTube takes advantage of this feature. In some scenarios, such as deposits, withdrawals, transfers, sales and purchases, this feature is exploited to the extreme. zkTube’s verification time, which was originally about 1/5 of Snarks, was reduced by about 15-20 times after zkTube’s optimization.

2). In order to maximize CPU performance, we reduce memory and allocate it appropriately to optimize both. In the circuit design, we try to satisfy a common SRS, such as the Merkel tree, and we compare different SRS for different groups and parallelize them to reduce memory usage as soon as possible. and at this time a dedicated thread to handle the storage scheme, thus achieving the impact of memory allocation.

3). We now have a TPS of over 3000.

Satoshi Club moderator: NFT is getting more and more popular as time goes by. We see that zkTube is not too far behind on this topic, as your whitepaper also mentions the NFT segment. Can you tell us about it? What are zkTube’s plans for NFT? Will you be adding non-functional services to PayTube?

Dave: We have developed appropriate technical frameworks for zkTube in the areas of DeFi, NFT, etc. One of the most typical is our support for the Uniswap V2 and V3 technology frameworks. The product has been developed and is currently undergoing internal testing. The specific implementation principles are as follows.

For Uniswap V2 and V3, zkTube’s underlying protocol will support data interaction with L2 accounts. Users can choose to deposit ETH or ERC20 coins to L2 on V2 and then exchange transactions or provide liquidity. Also, we can transfer ETH or ERC20 token deposits from V3 onwards to L2 for swap transactions or to provide liquidity. Then, Level 2 will be summarized, packaged, proven, and finally submitted to the ETH master chain if it is verified that there are no problems.

Satoshi Club Host: How do we secure our assets on the PayTube wallet?

Patricia (zkTube Business Manager): The user’s assets are stored in a smart contract that only the user can manipulate. The service provider can only interrupt the transaction, but cannot steal it. Therefore, users do not need to worry about the security of their assets. Even if all service providers go on strike, users can still actively withdraw their legitimate assets via smart contracts.

Satoshi Club Host: Is the PLONK algorithm used by zkTube different from the SNARK technology used by other zero-knowledge solutions? Are you still able to guarantee the correctness of transactions when interacting with or transferring transactions to the secondary offline layer?

Cerium (Senior Engineer, zkTube): First, zkTube uses the zero-knowledge proof Plonk algorithm in Layer2. Theoretically, Starks algorithm is the safest. It does not rely on pairwise assumptions and exponential knowledge, but computes entirely based on hash values and information theory, which is an anti-quantum computer attack. Accordingly, it increases the number of proof bytes from 288 bytes (b) to several kilobytes (KB), which is not suitable for zkTube to build a generic layer 2 protocol. Secondly, the biggest problem with Starks is that it is not generic. Different problems or scenarios require different arithmetic solutions. It is not very useful for zkTube at the moment, maybe when Ether 2.0 comes online, it will be a good choice for layer 2 sharding. snarks is the algorithm that uses the least number of bytes in the algorithm, while Groth16 is the most used algorithm. First of all, Groth16 is not universal and it relies on a one-time non-scalable setup. If the system changes or encounters any minor errors, a new ritual is required to deploy and fix it. Second, different CRSs (Common Reference String) are required for different problems, which is equivalent to designing different circuits for different scenarios. Therefore, the algorithm is used for specific scenarios, such as decentralized DEX, payments, and other simple scenario circuit design.

Satoshi Club Host: Does zkTube have a vision to support other cryptocurrencies and expand its spectrum, considering the congestion in the ETH network?

Panda:zkTube can support all ERC-20 tokens and will soon support the EIP-1271 protocol. Therefore, we are open to cooperation with other projects as well.

Satoshi Club Host: Is there a community ambassador and airdrop program for the zkTube protocol?

Patricia: Yes, zkTube is currently holding candy airdrops in conjunction with DropsEarn, the world’s leading airdrop organization, and users can find them at https://dropsearn.com/airdrops/查看相关信息 or on the official zkTube Medium (https://zktube.medium .com/zkt-candy-airdrop-by-zktube-9c0be7420d0f) to get detailed steps to participate.

Satoshi Club Moderator: Do you think people will continue to use Ethernet scalability solutions after the launch of Ethernet 2.0? Do you think POS systems are the best solution for scalability? What are your thoughts on Proof of Stake (POS)?

Dave: Everyone knows that the 2.0 upgrade converts POW mining to POS, but in fact, the whole initial phase of the upgrade process is a dual-chain coexistence and there will be two current master chains (original chain) and a new chain (POS mechanism), as well as two types of tokens ETH 1.0 and ETH 2.0. during this period, users can burn ETH 1.0 in exchange for ETH 2.0, but ETH2.0 will be effectively frozen until the full 2.0 upgrade is complete (at which point we can see that exchanges are trading both ethereum tokens, which is an interesting phenomenon).

In other words, the operational state of the original chain must be guaranteed during the entire 2.0 conversion. This is also a problem:The upgrade process requires maintaining and developing both chains at the same time, and making breakthroughs in key technologies such as sharding. The workload of one more chain is invisible compared with the direct exchange of other public chain main networks.

As for how long this intermediate state of dual-chain coexistence will take, we can infer from the latest official blog post. According to the release description “1.x Document: Quick Sync”, the development team is now focusing on more incremental upgrades to Ether 1.x, stating that “the life of the original Ether chain needs to be extended by at least another 3-5 years “.

Theoretically, the length of time the original chain needs to be maintained is intermediate. Once the original chain is upgraded to 2.0, the historical task is completed. Therefore, it can be inferred that the entire 2.0 upgrade process will take at least 3-5 years. One important reason for taking such a long time is that there are still some core issues on the original chain that need to be solved, including chain storage, block size, transaction throughput, state size and network performance. It is important to ensure that both chains are up to standard in order to complete the upgrade successfully.

At the end of the AMA, we received enthusiastic questions from KOLs in the community and had a follow-up in-depth discussion. The whole AMA was pleasant, fast-paced and well-organized, and was a great success with the enthusiastic communication between zkTube and Satoshi Club and the active participation of tens of thousands of community members.

The above is part of the recap, and community members can get the AMA details at the official Satoshi Club website.

The AMA received wide attention from the industry and strong support from the community members, and the market is hot. We believe that the zkTube Labs team will continue to bring new directions and surprises of hardcore technology to the outside world.
