Starting today, the Coinbase website and Coinbase Android and iOS apps are live with Dogcoin (DOGE), and Coinbase customers can now buy, sell, convert, send, receive, or store DOGE in all Coinbase supported regions, according to an official announcement.
Coinbase Pro, for professional investors, has opened up trading in Dogcoin, as previously reported by BizTweet.
Dogcoin (DOGE) was launched in 2013 as an alternative to traditional cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. Unlike the scarce Bitcoin, Dogcoin mines 10,000 new tokens every minute and has no maximum supply.
In addition, Coinbase is offering users a $1.2 million reward in dogcoins. Users who buy or sell $100 of DOGE on Coinbase by June 10 will have a chance to win the reward. The campaign is only open to legal residents of the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia (excluding Hawaii).
The company said, “Coinbase is going live with Dogcoin , and we’re giving out $1.2 million in bonuses to celebrate.”
The news was retweeted in a tweet containing a link to more details on the prizes, which include one $300,000 grand prize, 10 $30,000 and 6,000 $100 rewards.
The campaign is likely to please dogcoin fans, who have long been calling for exchanges to add dogcoin.
So far, Coinbase’s launch of dogcoin has failed to boost the token’s price, which actually fell by about 6 percent on Thursday.
Dogcoin’s price action is similar to what happened before Tesla CEO Musk’s much-hyped Saturday Night Live appearance last month, when Dogcoin’s price plummeted after a wild ride.
