AR technology company “Dent Reality” raises US$3.4 million in seed round to introduce AR technology to grocery stores

Small start-ups with AR technology have difficulty attracting investment, and Dent Reality finds opportunities in grocery stores.

According to TechCrunch, London technology startup Dent Reality has completed a $3.4 million seed round of financing led by Pi Labs. Sugar Capital and 7Pencent Ventures also participated in the financing.

While Apple and Facebook as a “meta-universe” investment in the future of several billions of dollars in recent years, focused on finding opportunities in the AR field start-ups received venture capital significantly reduced. Many venture capital companies have suffered losses due to large-scale investments like Magic Leap. Now they believe that the short-term benefits of AR technology are mainly left to large technology companies, but small startups are still looking for breakthroughs to attract investors.

For London-based Dent Reality, one opportunity to attract investment is to create concrete small-scale experiences in places such as grocery stores, demonstrating the power of technology and hyperlocalized maps. Taking a grocery store as an example, the team’s AR platform can provide customers with a small-scale layout of the shelf aisles in the store. At the same time, it can be combined with the store’s database to provide shelf data on which specific products can be found. The AR function allows customers to lift their phones and map out a path leading to the goods they want to buy.

CEO Andrew Hart said that retailers are more interested in how to integrate their online tool sets into the real-world shopper experience, because the development of these personalized tools makes online shoppers more valuable to them. Dent Reality is not a platform that specializes in finding things in grocery stores, but Hart believes that the density of goods in grocery stores makes it an ideal place to test their technology.

Hart revealed to TechCrunch that they decided to introduce AR technology in the grocery store because it was the most difficult challenge they could solve.

In the few years after the release of Apple’s ARKit AR development platform, Hart has shown many future AR technology demonstrations he created on Twitter and won a number of audiences. Dent Reality is committed to transforming these future use cases into a modern technology platform for developers. Although smartphones are not the perfect devices to present AR technology, they still provide consumers with a way to experience and interact with 3D interfaces. Hart believes that this will be the core of the upcoming wave of AR glasses devices .

Hart believes that the interface is usually limited to 2D and mobile phone screens. In AR technology, people have many opportunities to do things that cannot be done in a 2D interface.

Dent Reality hopes to maximize the use of hyperlocalized map data, AR, and their unique methods in the future. Buildings are no longer needed to integrate new hardware infrastructure, but instead use public Wi-Fi data and smartphone sensors to determine The location of the user can solve all the problems of large office buildings, hospitals and university campuses.
