UK Lawyer: Cryptocurrency Becoming More Important in Divorce Proceedings

Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin are becoming increasingly important in divorce proceedings as parties use them to hide their wealth, a British divorce lawyer said, according to scottishlegal. Ayesha Vardag, who acted for the successful party in Radmacher v. Granatino, said the number of inquiries to her firm mentioning cryptocurrencies has quintupled since 2017. In the same way that offshore trusts and investments have been used as vehicles to facilitate hiding assets, bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies can be used to hide the true value of a spouse. As cryptocurrencies become established, they will undoubtedly enter the mainstream divorce process.
