Brazil’s central bank plans to launch a CBDC pilot in 2022

According to local media Estadao, the President of the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) Roberto Campos Neto said that the Central Bank of Brazil plans to launch a digital currency (CBDC) pilot by 2022. Campos Neto said that the Brazilian central bank has also been discussing a bill to regulate digital assets as an investment tool. Cryptocurrency has even begun to affect national accounts, which means that it has become a related investment tool, and the purchase of cryptocurrency is affecting Brazil’s import figures. According to BCB data, Brazilians have purchased $4.27 billion in cryptocurrency so far in 2021. In August, Brazilians held a total of about 40 billion U.S. dollars in cryptocurrency. (Coindesk)
