UK Police Seize More Than $150 Million in Cryptocurrency During Criminal Investigation
Britain’s Metropolitan Police (Met Police ) said Thursday that it seized 114 million pounds of cryptocurrency worth about $158 million as part of an ongoing criminal investigation, according to TheBlock. The police said the operation was carried out by detectives from its Economic Crime Command based on intelligence received about the transfer of criminal assets. The operation is ongoing, according to the announcement. Earlier this month, it was reported that the London Police Service was seeking additional powers to stop the transfer of cryptocurrency funds. The Times of London specifically stated that the London Police Service wants to change legislation to make it more difficult for criminals to make such transfers.
