ASIFMA: More Measures Should Be Taken to Support Large-Scale Trials of “Tokenized Securities

A report by the Asian Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (ASIFMA) on Thursday said regulators should expand the scope of their existing sandboxes to test fintech initiatives for industry-wide trials, according to Reuters in Hong Kong. Tokenized securities are products such as stocks and bonds whose proof of ownership is recorded on a distributed ledger, a technology that supports other digital tokens such as bitcoin, a concept many banks are exploring in hopes it will help them price and settle transactions more efficiently. Currently, regulators in Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan have issued some guidelines on tokenized securities.
