SEC Does Not Clearly Identify Cryptocurrencies as a Target for Upcoming Regulation

According to decrypt news, the SEC has not explicitly identified cryptocurrencies as an upcoming regulatory target. Despite SEC Chairman Gary Gensler’s recent statements that consumers would benefit from regulation of crypto exchanges and that the agency should be prepared to enforce crypto cases, cryptocurrencies were not on the SEC’s regulatory agenda for the spring and summer released Friday. Instead, the agency is focusing on SPAC-related rules; short sale disclosure; cryptocurrency market reform; and gamification of trading platforms such as Robinhood.
