Bank of England Official: Will Study How to Regulate Stablecoins if They Are Used as a Payment Method

Christina Segal-Knowles, executive director of financial market infrastructure at the Bank of England, said in a speech that she would study how to regulate stablecoins if they were used as a payment method. If properly regulated, digital currencies like stablecoins could have benefits: including cheaper payments and more functionality. They could have potential benefits for financial stability. But it will require regulators to control new forms of currency to the standards we expect of the ones currently in use.
