South African Cryptocurrency Exchange Confirms Receipt of Customer Data Request from Tax Collection Agency

Three leading South African cryptocurrency exchanges recently confirmed receiving a request for customer data from the country’s tax collection agency, News bitcoin reported. In a joint statement, the exchanges, namely Altcointrader, Luno and Valr, said the request was for “some of their customers” and was made “in accordance with section 46 of the (South African) Tax Administration Act”. For its part, the tax office said the data collected “will inform future actions regarding crypto assets.
